The International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (the Standards) require the Chief Audit Executive of the organization to develop and maintain a quality assurance and improvement program that covers all aspects of the internal audit activity of the organization.

A quality assurance and improvement program is designed to facilitate an evaluation of the internal audit activity’s conformance with the Standards, the Code of Ethics and Definition of Internal Auditing. The program also assesses the efficiency and effectiveness of the internal audit activity and identifies opportunities for improvement.



The quality assurance and improvement program should include both internal and external assessments.External assessments should be conducted at least once every five years
